So before I watched the film, I was already in a less than ideal mood, just bored or down in the dumps. It was already around 1 or 2 in the morning, so in an attempt to cheer myself up I was looking for something to watch and do just that for me on Netflix. It didn't take long for me to find "MaSameer Junior" shortly into the top 10 watched movies. I am a big fan of adult rated animations, so I decided to dive in, and I came out with no regrets.
Masameer Junior is a Saudi Arabian animated comedy film, a prequel film to the Saudi Arabian animated comedy web series: Masameer and Masameer County. The web series was developed by the studio Myrkott, a studio co-established in 2014 by Faisal Alamer, Abdulaziz Al-Muzaini, and Malik Nejer. The series has since evolved, with a new season, titled Masameer County, released on Netflix in 2021 as part of a five-year exclusive deal between Myrkott and Netflix.
The film follows three young children (Saad, Saltooh, and Trad) on their first day of elementary school as they are lectured, and learn about the concept of good deeds and the potential consequences of bad ones that follow in the afterlife. Following that they set off to perform good deeds, however, said attempts often lead to chaos and further comedic situations. They then decide to embark on a topsy-turvy journey to complete the ultimate "good deed."
I think my humor can be considered quite desensitized sometimes, and the movie's humor still felt very funny despite seeming quite lighthearted, even with some of the themes they contained, which I found very impressive overall. I also thought it didn't feel too fast paced and its runtime was very appropiate for the amount of content it had.
I would definetly suggest all of my other friends and other people with similar senses of humor to try watching this animated film. It's piqued my curiosity enough to add the original webseries to my watchlist on Neflix, and I also plan to watch the continued series also on Netflix afterwards.
